A poster isn't good for much if you don't have anything to put on it.
We wanted a picture of a female on the poster to drive home one sometimes not so obvious point.
In the game of billiards - as in Mathematics - you don't have to be a man or a woman to do well,
or in fact be great!
Also, by selecting a female for the poster, we hoped that it would help dissuade the old stereotype
and encourage female students to pursue a degree in Applied Mathematics.
After a lot of looking around for the perfect poster person, we found a couple photos from
Aileen Pippen with the help of our good friends at
Billiards Digest Magazine.
We threw together some text off the top of our heads and before we
knew it we had a poster concept.
The image on the left is the first BETA of the Billiard Endowment for Applied Mathematics poster.
